Architect Group Reino Koivula Joins UKI

UKI Architects Strengthens Its Hospital Design Expertise

A significant merger is taking place in Finnish architecture as UKI Architects has acquired the entire share capital of Architect Group Reino Koivula, Inc.

Architect Group Reino Koivula is one of Finland’s best-known architectural practices specialising in hospital design, with a history spanning nearly 80 years. The firm has delivered numerous major hospital projects both independently and in collaboration with other architectural practices. Its largest current collaboration is the New Malmi Hospital, the design competition for which was won in 2024. The practice also contributed to the design of the New Children’s Hospital, which received the Finlandia Prize for Architecture in 2018.

UKI Architects, in turn, is involved in several of Finland’s most significant future hospital projects, including the redevelopment of Oulu University Hospital, Tampere University Hospital and Helsinki’s Laakso Hospital.

The acquisition further strengthens UKI Architects’ already well-established position in hospital design, both in the Helsinki metropolitan area and across Finland. It brings together two long-established architectural practices united by deep expertise, a user-centred design approach and a shared set of values.
