Espoonlahti Health Station was originally designed by Achitect Group Reino Koivula. With a gross floor area of approximately 5,000 square meters, the building had reached the age requiring major renovation by the 2020s, and instead of demolition, it was decided to renew the facility.
The architectural concept was to make the ensemble, originally reflecting 1990s architecture, appear even more characteristic of its era – the way we tend to imagine the 1990s in our minds. For this reason, pastel tones and playful patterns have been extensively incorporated into the refurbished building.
As part of the renovation, the interior spaces were completely renewed and the ventilation plant room was expanded. A terrace for a restaurant was added to the courtyard area, and all exterior surface materials were replaced. In connection with the project, we also developed updated signage guidelines for the Wellbeing Services County of Western Uusimaa, which have been applied throughout the health center.
The project has been awarded the City of Espoo’s Hurraa! Award 2025.
