Around two thirds of the old Children’s Hospital at the Meilahti hospital grounds were renovated for use as surgical facilities for adults. During to the renovation, the building was renamed the Park Hospital. The size of the project was about 19,500 gsm.
During the project, new facilities were built. These were operating rooms, imaging rooms, polyclinics for mouth and jaw diseases, plastic surgery, mammary gland surgery, venous surgery, and clinical physiology. The lobby containing a café was included in the project. The surrounding grounds were also relandscaped into a pleasant park area.
The theme of the design was “in the spirit of the locale.” The goal was to eliminate issues with air quality in the renovated area, whilst preserving beautiful original details and the original atmosphere.
The project was awarded the Rakentamisen Ruusu award in 2021 for exceptional quality in urban construction.
